Broadband Issue
I believe many Malaysians are in favor with the 6th Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for his changes made right after he took the seat from the former Prime Minister. His announcement of RM 60 Billion Economic Stimulus Package indeed being doubted till today but several changes like liberalization of Finance, Services sector and other 25 (if I'm not mistaken) economic sub-sectors are really interesting to look at.
I am eager to look at the outcomes for the next three years. I know it's too early but at least some improvement and achievement can be seen especially the performance of the public administration.
Najib is seen to be more serious in moving Malaysia towards Tun Mahathir's 2020 Vision. During Pak Lah's time, Malaysia seemed to be less productive.
Here, I want to share your views on the IT.
Malaysians are left too far behind in terms of IT literacy as compared to Japan, Korea and China. We don't have our own search engine. Google is undoubtedly an excellent search engine. However, we should at least try to provide an alternatives especially for our own people.
I believe we do have experts in house but maybe the opportunities are not opened widely.
Ok, maybe I'm too ambitious..=)
The point I want to highlight here is that Malaysian should be encouraged to explore the benefits of internet by providing better excess to people.
Broadband providers, for example, are still offering unsatisfied connection to their customers. I personally agree with Lim Kit Siang who has urged Tan Sri Rais Yatim to look into this issue seriously.
Poor broadband service will cause customers to lose their productivity. Much time and money are spent to get certain information. Many videos and other big files are sluggishly downloaded. Consumers sometimes have to wait for a long time just to download a utility software. A broadband provider, for example, offering 384mbps internet connection but consumers are hardly get 50kbps.
This is unacceptable. We are not in the dial-up era anymore.
